Bringing the Heart of Kerala to Melbourne:
The Australian Malayalee Islamic Association (AMIA)
Hello and welcome to the Australian Malayalee Islamic Association (AMIA)! We’re a warm and lively community of Malayalee Muslims from Kerala, India—just look to the southwestern tip of India on the map, right along the Arabian Sea, and that’s where our roots are. Kerala is known for its beautiful backwaters, coconut trees, and a culture that embraces diversity, and we’re thrilled to bring a bit of that spirit here to our home in Melbourne.
Melbourne has been so welcoming to us, and our community has truly blossomed here. Many of us are skilled migrants—engineers, doctors, nurses, teachers, and more—and we’re proud to contribute our talents to Australia. Inspired by the Prophet Muhammad’s teaching, “The best among you are those who bring the most benefit to others” (Sahih Bukhari), we’re committed to making a positive impact in any way we can, big or small.
At AMIA, we’re all about supporting each other and sharing our unique heritage. Whether it’s through organizing community gatherings, volunteering, or simply connecting over good food and good company, we love celebrating what makes us both Malayalee and Australian. We’re excited to keep growing together in this beautiful country, helping make Melbourne an even more welcoming and wonderful place for everyone.
